national campaign
It is unacceptable that any veteran should find themselves homeless. As Canadians, we all have a duty of care to look after our veterans. In 2024, we will be launching the Alberta campaign – Helping Homeless Veterans. Based on need and local support, cities under consideration include Halifax, Montreal, Toronto, Winnipeg, Calgary, Vancouver and Victoria.

Mental Health and Transition Support Program Sponsorships
THE ANDY CARSWELL BUILDING, OTTAWA
46%+ of homeless veterans are living with one or more mental health issues, addiction issues, and medical conditions – some, all at the same time.
Mental Health and Transition Program
The exceptional roles and responsibilities veterans undertook while in service can lead to many mental health challenges. Many veterans struggle with successfully transitioning back to civilian life. Some struggle with symptoms of mental illness including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, loneliness and anxiety. Many struggling veterans suffer the side effects of using substances as a means of coping with those symptoms, including broken relationships with family and loved ones, financial insecurity, housing loss, loneliness and loss of identity. The journey back to stability can be a difficult one with lots of challenges along the way.
Veterans’ House offers a mental health and transition program with a multifaceted approach to supporting veterans in transitioning to civilian life, focusing on the whole individual and offering a program tailored to each veteran’s needs. As a resident of Veterans’ House, our veterans can work at their pace in identifying and overcoming barriers to their success, find support and encouragement to help them conquer challenges, learn to manage and control depression and PTSD symptoms, gain control over their addictions, and celebrate successes along the way.
As a partner of Veterans’ House, Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) provides a case support worker for each veteran resident to help address the clinical aspects of their mental illness and overall health. In addition to the support from VAC, the following wraparound support services are currently being offered at Veterans’ House Ottawa, which are proven to rejuvenate, reconnect and discover the next chapter in their journey into their future.
We would like to thank BMO for sponsoring many of our Programs for 2022.
The following programs are currently being developed and are available for sponsorship:
- Community Outings
- Personal Trainer
- Smoking Cessation
- Conflict Resolution and Mediation
- Community Gardening
- Yoga and Meditation
- Service Dog Training
We will continue to assess these programs as well as develop new ones depending on the need as identified by the veterans themselves.
Please contact us if you’re interested in supporting one or multiple programs at Veterans’ House Ottawa.
Support a Veteran’s Residence
Help Veterans’ House Canada keep our veterans in a safe and supportive community.
Now that a veteran has found a home at Veterans’ House, we want to ensure that their bachelor unit remains affordable. Each month, Veterans’ House Canada provides a $500 subsidy to each veteran tenant. With 40 veterans, we provide $240,000 in subsidies each year.
Assist Veterans’ House Canada with these subsidies. The cost is $6,000 per year ($500/month). Sponsorships are being offered for either monthly or yearly amounts. Please contact us to discuss options of giving.
